Korlux™ - Flexible Stone Veneer™
Korlux is the world's first thin, flexible, decorative sheet with a true 3-dimensional granite appearance.
Korlux is a unique surfacing material manufactured using proprietary engineering technology. The production process includes the pigmenting of natural stone chips of various sizes that are then uniformly distributed in a thermoplastic extruded flexible sheet.
Korlux is recommended as a decorative surfacing material for interior vertical and light duty horizontal surfaces.
Korlux replicates the look and feel of granite or solid surface materials. The natural stone chips and coloring are distributed uniformly throughout the sheet, eliminating the dark seam lines characteristic with other surfacing materials.
Korlux is as thin as a laminate, however it is flexible and easy to fabricate with.
Korlux resin sheet contains many layers of pigmented stone to give it the appearance of granite.
Korlux does not support mold, mildew or bacterial growth.
Korlux sheet can be routed to create a tile appearance for bathrooms.
Korlux sheet can used to fabricate an extruded polystyrene foam insulated building panel.
Korlux can be used in the manufacture of slotwall cabinetry for consumer store displays.
Korlux has over 2x the impact resistance of standard high pressure horizontal grade laminate, over 6x that of vertical grade laminate and over 3x that of solid surface materials.
When subjected to impact, laminates and solid surface materials crack, chip or break. Korlux does not chip when subjected to a heavy blow that would send chips flying on laminate surfaces. Korlux™ deforms and may show a moderate dent or it may return to its original shape depending upon the severity of the impact.
Korlux is highly stain resistant, scoring a 9 on the NEMA LD-3 cleanability test vs the performance standard of 20 for standard high pressure laminates (low scores are best)!
Korlux is highly chemical resistant, showing no effect when exposed to alcohol, bleach, acetone, Betadine® and many other chemicals found in hospitals and clinical labs.
Despite the high concentration of natural stone and the granite-like appearance, Korlux is remarkably flexible, and can be formed to a 1” radius without heat.
This presents the design professional and fabricator with creative opportunities not possible with laminates or achieved only at great expense with solid surface materials.
Korlux can be easily fabricated with standard hand tools. It can be cut with scissors, shears, a utility knife or on a table saw.
Korlux can be laminated to plywood, particle board, MDF, hardboard and more using 3M™ High-Strength 90 or Wilsonart® 500 contact adhesives in a spray or with a roller.
Korlux full sized panels can be laid up and cut on panel saws. Panels may be machine edge-banded with matching (printed) 1mm PVC edgeband, manufactured with the same natural stone chips used in the sheet goods.
Alternately, 3mm edge banding featuring the same color-through technology used in Korlux sheet can be used.
