Korlux™ is Green!

E-mail Print

It is generally accepted that the guidelines promoted by the U.S. Green Building Council in their document titled “Green Building Rating System For New Construction & Major Renovations” establish the criteria by which design professionals create “green” buildings. Korlux can help achieve LEED’s (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits under the Indoor Environmental Quality section of the guidelines, as follows:

EQ Credit 4.1 – Low-Emitting Materials: Adhesives & Sealants

In order to qualify for this credit, “All adhesives and sealants used on the interior of the building (defined as inside of the weatherproofing system and applied on-site) shall comply with the requirements of the following reference standards:”.

Korlux™ can be bonded with PVA adhesives that are well below the maximum VOC limits designated in the reference standards. Materials that must be bonded with contact adhesives or other solvent based adhesives would not meet this standard.

EQ Credit 4.4 - Low-Emitting Materials: Composite Wood & Agrifiber Products

In order to qualify for this credit, “Composite wood and agrifiber products used on the interior of the building (defined as inside of the weatherproofing system) shall contain no added urea-formaldehyde resins. Laminating adhesives used to fabricate on-site and shop-applied composite wood and agrifiber assemblies shall contain no added urea-formaldehyde resins.”

Korlux™ contains 0% formaldehyde – there is no naturally occurring formaldehyde, nor is formaldehyde added during the manufacturing process. In addition, Korlux™ contains exceptionally low levels of VOC’s other than formaldehyde.

PVC Free – While PVC content is not currently referenced in the guidelines, building owners are becoming increasingly concerned about the use of materials containing PVC. New materials that can be substituted for traditional materials containing PVC are routinely referred to as “green” by building owners and design professionals alike. Korlux™ does not contain any PVC.
